Full When Empty
Matthew 9:16-18

I. The act of self-denial: Fasting is the voluntary act of abstaining from something for spiritual reasons. "Whenever you fast..."

II. The act of seeking: Fasting enables you to focus on some aspect of God's will. "...don't show your fasting to people but to your Father"
A. To repent for personal, corporate, or national sins
B. To grieve some loss
C. To overcome some spiritual weakness or demonic influence
D. To intercede for someone or a specific need
E. To discern the will of God
F. To draw nearer in worship

III. The act of surrender: Fasting prepares us to yield to God's leading in our lives. "And your Father will reward you"
