No Applause Please
Matthew 6:1-4

I. He admonishes us to "be careful" about the way we publicly demonstrate our righteousness - 6:1. "Be careful not to practice your righteousness in front of others to be seen by them."

II. He anticipates that we would exercise our religious duties regularly - 6:2, 5, 16. "whenever you give...pray...fast"
A. Toward others: Almsgiving
B. Toward God: Prayer
C. Toward self: Fasting

III. He addresses the importance of the motivation behind our actions - 6:1, 2, 5, 16. "...don't [give]...to be applauded by people"

IV. He applies his teaching to the act of giving alms - 6:3-4. "that your giving may be in secret"
