The Heart of Divorce
Matthew 5:31-32, 19:3-9

I. Public opinion: Do whatever pleases you - 19:1-2

II. Religious positions: Wrestle with the broad or limited interpretations - 19:3
A. School of Hillel: Any reason is acceptable.
B. School of Shammai: Only in the case of immorality.

III. Mosaic permission: Consider a provision for imperfection and compassion - 19:8-9
A. Humans are imperfect and often selfish.
B. God led Moses to offer a compassionate remedy for injustice.

IV. Divine plan: Follow the ultimate intention for oneness - 19:4-6
A. God desires us to recognize our equality and uniqueness.
B. God desires us to recognize the sanctity and priority of marriage.
C. God desires a couple to experience a deep oneness.
D. God desires for the marriage to endure.
