The Blessedness of Brokeness
Matthew 5:4

I. Brokeness: An awareness of our sinful nature should produce a sense of godly sorrow within us.
A. Sadness: Those who have a sad countenance.
B. Sorrow for others: Those who mourn over the pain of others.
C. Social conscience: Those who have concern and mourn over the evil in this world.
D. Godly sorrow: Those who grieve over their sinful condition.

II. Blessedness: An awareness of our true condition opens us to the peace of God.
A. Acknowledge our spiritual "poverty" - 5:3.
B. Respond to our condition with godly sorrow - 5:4.
C. Repent of our sinfulness - 2 Corinthians 7:9-10.
D. Receive the forgiveness of God - Romans 10:9-10.
E. Experience the peace, comfort and joy of the Lord - 5:4.
